Time for PAA’s annual leadership conference!

PAA logoParents Across America is holding our 2014 Leadership Conference from Monday – Wednesday, July 28-30, 2014, in Washington DC. Please join us!!!

The event will begin on Monday night with the first PAA Parent Voice Award Dinner honoring PAA co-founder Leonie Haimson, who led the successful attempt to shut down the student data collection corporation, inbloom. She is a warrior in the battle to protect student privacy. This dinner is open to the public; you may purchase tickets or make a donation here.

PAA’s annual meeting is designed for PAA chapter and affiliate members or individuals or groups seriously considering forming PAA chapters or affiliates.You can find out more about becoming a PAA chapter or affiliate here.

The Leadership Conference will include interesting and informative workshops and discussions all day Tuesday and on Wednesday morning. Come ready to brainstorm, learn, and support one another as we fight to save public education!

We will also organize legislative visits on Monday and Wednesday afternoon for those of you who wish to discuss PAA positions and local concerns with your elected representatives.

The deadline for booking your hotel room is June 30. PAA is also offering a limited number of travel grants; the deadline for requesting a grant is June 26. Details here.

Goals of the meeting:

  • Celebrate Parents Across America!
  • Get to know each other better.
  • Discuss hot issues such as Common Core, opting out of testing, and data privacy and work on position papers and strategies.
  • Spend time working with a facilitator to improve our communication skills around issues of race, culture, and life experience, especially as they relate to education issues.
  • Provide start-up and strategic support for chapters and affiliates and meet in regional groups.
  • Learn from an expert on Capitol Hill how to advocate for PAA’s positions in Congress.
