News flash from the SOS March in DC- Parents are powerful!

PAA had 20 members on Capitol Hill Thursday, talking to Senators and Congressmen from across the nation. Some PAA members also presented a workshop on PAA and some of our issues including testing and charter schools, with great results.

Today started off with a fantastic keynote speech by Diane Ravitch and another PAA workshop, this one on what’s wrong with ESEA and the strategies promoted by Race to the Top, and what we need instead – small class size, different assessment systems, more parent voice.

Parents Across America received a great compliment from a 40-year teacher who said that, in all his time in education, PAA is the best thing he has seen come along.

We have met so many parents and others who are just glad we are here. It makes us glad, too, that we have been able to meet up and begin to work together and support each other.

So tired, sore feet – so ready to march tomorrow!
